This story took place at
Rutgers University, in New Brunswick, NJ.
One day, a girl came home after a long day of studying for finals. But upon
returning to her dorm room, she discovered a rubber band around the doorknob.
This was a signal the two girls used when one of them had brought a guy back to
the room and wanted some privacy. But the girl had had a long night. She was
exhausted and had an exam the next day, so she went in anyways. When she opened
the door, she heard some heavy breathing and rustling noises on her roommate’s
side of the room. Her own bed was near the door, so not wanting to disturb her
roommate, she kept the lights off and tried to be as quiet as possible as she
changed out of her clothes and got into her own bed and promptly fell asleep.
She woke up early the next morning to get some more studying done. But as she
got up, she looked over at her roommate’s side of the room, and there was what
looked like blood all over the bed and the floor. But her roommate looked to be
sleeping peacefully, except for the fact that she seemed to be sleeping upside
down. Frightened, the girl timidly walked over to her roommate’s bed and
pulled away the blanket, only to see that her roommate’s body was still
right-side up. Her head and feet, however, had been cut off and placed at
opposite ends of her body. The girl immediately jumped back and turned around to
dash out of the room. But before she reached the door, she glanced at the wall
next to it. There on the wall above her bed, written in her roommate’s blood,
were the words, “Aren’t you glad you didn’t turn on the lights?”
