Review of Millennium
By Meredith Chin
So we all have to admit that with tons of screaming fans and
packed concerts, the Backstreet Boys really are "Larger Than Life."
All in white and as clean cut as ever, these five studs are sporting a new image
for the new millenium. So, like it or not, Backstreet's back-alright!
Sure they looked twelve on their first album and sure they had some cheesy love
songs to go along with their poorly coordinated outfits but people liked that
about them and still do. How could you not think it's fun to turn up the tunes
to great songs like "I Want It That Way" or "The One?"
Because the truth of the matter is, you've probably already picked the group
member you like the best, found out his favorite color and thing to do in his
spare time and are ready to learn which are the best songs on their new album, Millenium.
Don't deny it.
If your heart just beats wildly at the thought of AJ or Kevin or Nick singing
right to you any time you turn on your CD player, then you would probably be
tided over by listening to "I Need You Tonight," "Don't Want To
Lose You Now" or " Back To Your Heart." Those songs are pretty
typical boy band material. Of course, they're all about loving the girl and
being scared to lose her or, actually losing her and trying to find a way to
sing her back into his life…what else?
Now, if you are one who just tears every time you think of how sentimental these
guys can be, try listening to the song that Brian wrote to his mother, "The
Perfect Fan." But if that is the type of thing that makes you sick to your
stomach, I would recommend skipping right over track 12.
If you like a good beat every now and then you could check out "Larger Than
Life," (if you're not already sick of it from it being over-played on the
radio) "It's Gotta Be You" and "Don't Want You Back." Even
though the first line of "Don't Want You Back" starts out, "you
hit me faster than a shark attack" don't be so quick to judge, the tune may
grow on you. Then again, maybe not.
My own personal favorites: "The One," "It's Gotta Be You"
and…Kevin.
I would have to say, I give this album two thumbs up! Fun for the whole family.
Okay, maybe not, but it's definitely worth the purchase if you are at all
interested.
