Before I start this review, can someone tell me how many Wayans there are? I cannot keep track of them, but they pop up everywhere. They are like white hair. If you pop one out, two will show up a few days later. Anyway, as for this movie, I laughed really hard during the Scary Movie trailers, so I felt I should give this movie a try.
It is pointless to write the review of this movie because there really isn’t a movie. This movie was the highest opening grossing R-rated movie ever, which is ironic because no one above the age of 17 will find this movie all that funny.
To give you a quick summary, the movie is a parody of teen horror flicks. It centers around Anna Faris (Campbell), who is supposed to be Neve Campbell and Jennifer Love Hewitt rolled into one, but without the looks, the acting, the crying, or the breasts. The movie has a great promise with Carmen Electra doing a mock Drew Barrymore scene. There are self-deprecating references to Prince, her doing the Baywatch run through the water sprinklers, etc. Ha, ha. Very funny.
Along the way, the movie makes fun of Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Blair Witch, Titanic, Pulp Fiction, The Sixth Sense, The Matrix, and The Usual Suspects. Gee, how many people made fun of Leo saying, “I’m the king of the world!”? Well, the Wayans were hoping for one more chuckle. Even the Budweiser commercial spoof is tired. The jokes are written by a bunch of twelve-year olds (whoops, they were written by the actors of the monster hit show, Wayans Bros.). Even Cheri Oteri, who makes great bit roles, was tiresome as the Courtney Cox wannabe, Gail Hailstorm. And Marlon Wayans makes fun of his 1-800-CALL-ATT buddy, David Arquette. How do you spoof a doofus, though? Gee, let’s call the character Doofy. Keep this up, Marlon and Shawn, and you will surely be creating a sitcom sandwiched between Friends and Will and Grace.
I have several problems with this movie. First, the ratio of exposed penises to female genitalia was disturbingly high. Second, the jokes were crude. There is an ongoing gag about homosexuality. Yeah, it is funny when you are in junior high, but it ain’t Seinfeld humor, not that there's anything wrong with that. Third, I hate Shannon Elizabeth. When American Pie first came out, I thought she was really hot. Now I realize that the lower half of her face is hideous, especially when she smiles. Fourth, the Wayans brothers cannot act. If their performance at the MTV Music Awards isn’t proof, this movie provides evidence beyond a reasonable doubt.
