Okay, so this cute flick that was
released in 1999 somehow became a sequel two years later. Sheesh. How many
suckers are gonna watch more of these hormone-crazy teens? The fact that I am
writing this review probably indicates that my face resembles a Tootsie Pop.
American Pie 2 picks up where American
Pie left off. All of the guys have gone to college, various schools around
different parts of the country. Not making the sequel, however, is the start of
the original. Yup, the Pie had contractual disputes and could not be a part of
this movie. We start off with Jim (Jason Biggs) in a compromising position
again, only this time he's trying to get laid (a worthy endeavor). Of course,
like the first movie, Jim's dad (Eugene Levy) walks in. Despite this joke being
quite obvious, it was still quite funny.
After the credits, there is the
gratuitous party at Stifler's house. Again, Stifler consumes something that
originates from the penis. I'll just leave it at that. At this party, all of the
cast regulars from the first movie are there. Oddly, there is some random Asian
kid who has two random scenes. Who is this kid? The party gets busted so the
five boys decide to rent a beach house on Michigan Lake. So that's the basic
plot.
But by having all of the regular cast
members back, the story gets somewhat old. Oz (Klein) is still pining for Mena
Suvari which makes him the world's biggest pu**y. Also, Kevin still pines for
Vicky (Tara Reid). Finch still pines for Stifler's mom. So it really is up to
Stifler and Jim to give this movie some comedic kick.
Thankfully, this movie is devoid of all plot. It's just gags after gags. Jim
needs to figure out how to become better sexually because Nadia is coming to
visit him at the beach house at the end of the summer. Jim sneaks to band camp
to find the flutist. He is trying to find someone else who can play his purple
flute. Stifler is in quest for the teenaged holy grail, hot lesbian sex.
Overall, this movie had more gags
than the first. Most of the good gags aren't in the commercials so there are
plenty of laughs throughout the movie. However, this story lacked the charm and
the magic of the first movie. I actually found myself getting bored at the end
because this story lacked plot (sorry, I've been writing scripts lately so my
screenwriting self is kicking in). However, if you are looking for a mindless
movie with plenty of hotties, T&A, and grossed-out gags, this movie sure
meets expectations.
