Gabi's POV
Top Fifteen TV Shows I would show in reruns if I had my own network:
- The Mary Tyler Moore Show - without it, there’d be no Friends, no
Cheers, no Murphy Brown, and television viewers might still be stuck
watching Lucy. Although it was popular way back in the 1970s, the jokes are
still funny.
- Murphy Brown - a modern day Mary Tyler Moore, with a wise-cracking
Candace Bergen serving as the hard-ass journalist. Murphy will stop at
nothing to get a story, making for some hilarious physical comedy as well.
- Mad About You - this show never ceases to crack me up. Paul Reiser’s
brand of New York Jewish humor coupled with Helen Hunt’s ability to finish
his sentences makes this the relationship you wish you had.
- Life Goes On - still the best drama of all time, and still the only
show that ever portrayed a main character that had AIDS.
- Kate and Allie - these gal pals attempted to redefine the family
when they, both divorced and with children, moved in together.
- Beverly Hills, 90210 - without it, there’d be no Dawson’s
Creek. The model from which all teen soaps copy, this show remains the
original melodramatic guilty pleasure. And for those of us who still want
Brenda and Dylan together, we can relive those episodes.
- Dawson’s Creek - with its witty self-referential style and homage
to 90210s past, who wouldn’t want to relive the daily lives of these teens
from Capeside?
- Melrose Place - Aaron Spelling at his best. Need I say more?
- Friends - because you gotta have Friends.
- Family Ties - the only 80s family show in which the children aren’t
phony and the parents don’t always have all the answers. It’s also
really funny.
- Roseanne - Roseanne presides over the most sarcastic family in
America, and it’s sooo funny!
- Will and Grace - Like Mad About You without the sex.
- Daria - The only teen on TV that actually has a clue, making her
sarcasm believable and hilarious.
- Party of Five - This remains one of the most thoughtful,
well-written dramas ever on television. And I miss it so much.
- Behind the Music - because its so darn addictive.
