Eight Important Application Form Tips

You might want to print this out and
post it over your desk to remind you what it takes to create a killer
application.
1. Expect flubs so make copies.
Before you type
your first letter on your application, make copies of it. You will need them to
practice seeing how much information you can fit and in case you make major
typos.
2. Exercise your right to type.
We strongly suggest that
you type the application. There’s nothing worse than the admissions officers not
being able to read your application.
3. Take control of the
space.
We guarantee you will want more space than you are given on the
application. This is where your skills at prioritizing come in. You need to
first put all of your information in order of importance. Then include as much
of it as you can.
4. To resume or not to resume.
If you have a
number of additional activities or a lot more detail that you would like to
include that can’t fit on the application, include a resume with your
application. However, make sure that your resume includes more than what you
have on the application form itself.
5. Neatness counts.
If you
make a mistake, try to conceal it with a little bit of white out. If you make
too many boo-boos, start over.
6. Focus on leadership.
Include
activities, awards, and experiences that highlight your leadership or special
contributions. Don’t fill blanks with fluff.
7. No blanks
blank.
After you are finished, make sure you have completed every blank,
including your signature!
8. Photocopy before the big send
off.
If by some freak accident, your original application gets lost, a
photocopy of it will save you hours of having to re-do it.

CampusNut Notes: Okay,
these tips are really obvious. However, the most obvious things are often
the most overlooked. Click on the book to find out more information about
some practical advice on getting the most out of your application. They
are almost as shameless about their Harvard plugs as the CEO of your favorite
college Internet start-up.
