New York:
New York is one of the most expensive cities to live in; unfortunately, it is also one of the most expensive places to go on dates. However, here are three types of dates that will allow you to enjoy a day with your date without feeling empty in your wallet or purse.
Trip to Coney Island
Before the two of you hop on the subway, stop off a local street vendor who sells the famous New York pretzels. While most people prefer salted pretzels, you can ask the merchant to go heavy or easy with the salt. The pretzel is no substitute for a dinner on the Tavern on the Green but it is a good snack and no city makes it better. Running Total: $1.00
Take the B, D, N or F trains to Stillwell Avenue-Coney Island (the last stop) or the D or F trains to West 8th Street. While you enjoy the ride to Coney Island, you can use the time to get to know each other. To blend in with the locals, talk aloud about how you long for the summer days when your Brooklyn Dodgers used to beat up the NY Giants. Running total: $4.00 (2 tokens @ $1.50 each).
When you arrive at Coney Island, walk around and enjoy the merchant booths and side shows. You can also hear people holler as they ride the world famous Cyclone or walk on the boardwalk (for more info, go to http://coneyisland.brooklyn.ny.us). During the first Saturday after the summer solstice, Coney Island hosts the Mermaid Parade that is part-Mardi Gras (sans nudity) and part Arts show.
During the Fourth of July weekend, the Famous Nathan’s holds a hot dog eating contest. Regardless, you must go there and share the best beef frank that the world has to offer. Afterwards, go crazy and spend two quarters to try to win a prize for your date from one of the amusement park game booths. Show your date that you are a wild and crazy spender. Running total: $7:00 (Hot dog @ $2.50; game @ $.50).
After a nice day of walking around Coney Island, head back. Running total: $10.00. If things go really well, you can go to www.drdrew.com and order free condoms and cap off a perfect date.
