Diet Pepsi Addiction

Diet Pepsi

I tried time and time to quit but can’t. Sometimes the addiction is so overwhelming that you cannot go to sleep. All you think about is “when will I get another?” Yes, I am addicted to Diet Pepsi.

You may ask, “What is a big deal? It is only a carbonated beverage.” In fact, it seems odd that one could actually develop a chemical dependence on a soda. I don’t know how or why, but it just happened. How bad was this addiction? If I were to purchase a case of soda for the weekend (24 cans), I would be emptied out by Saturday afternoon. My restaurant preference was based not on the food served but whether the place of choice offered either the Coke brand or the Pepsi brand. Also, if I were to order Diet Pepsi and the waitperson brought out Diet Coke, I would be offended and deduct that portion from the tip. (Note to waiters and waitresses: do not assume that one is interchangeable with the other) I have gotten into fights over my loyalty over Diet Pepsi. Do not tell me that Diet Pepsi tastes like Diet Coke. Do not tell me that Pepsi One is the same thing. My love of Diet Pepsi was absolute. I could tell when a Diet Pepsi had about one week, one month, or three months of expiration left. Whenever I go into a 7-Eleven-type convenience store, I would have to check the expiration date before I could make a purchase. Rum and Coke? No way, Rum and Diet Pepsi. Root Beer and Vanilla Ice Cream? You guess it…DP all the way.

The addiction started back when I was young and chubby. At that time, Diet Pepsi was a way for me to get an artificial sugar fix while I was trying to lose weight. And it certainly was a friend during this emotional time; I lost 40 pounds within 3 months. During that time, I developed a level of appreciation and understanding for this 12 ounce colleague of mine. Since that time, I have felt the need to express my loyalty at least a dozen times a day. It is probably no coincidence that share prices of Pepsico have skyrocketed in the process.

As trivial as this addiction may be to you, I have to treat this as a daily struggle. What is the point of this article, you say? I don’t know. Perhaps I don’t have one. I just wanted to enlighten you on this man’s lone struggle, that’s all.

Hey Young, I know all too well what your addiction is like. I too was addicted to diet soda but mine was diet coke. I was addicted to the tune of 7-8 cans and sometimes bottles a day for nearly 10 years. Any diet soda is not good for you, I know because of the health problems I struggled with for such a long time until I finally quit. Anyway, I understand what you go through and my advice is to get off of it altogether. Thanks,Mike www.dietdrinkaddiction.com

Hello, I am also addicted to Diet Pepsi, and have drunk similar quantities as you on a daily basis for many years. I am trying to drink other things now but I am sure I am addicted as the thought of giving up diet Pepsi altogether is an almost scary idea to me, which clearly signals dependence. The fact that I have finally admitted to myself that this is an addiction is a beginning. I also believe Diet Pepsi has caused me to gain significant amounts of weight as it keeps you from feeling full, and I eat more at mealtimes and am hungrier in between meals when I drink it. I don't know if drinking huge quantities of it as I have will kill you, but perhpas my resulting overweight condition will. For this reason, I feel that Diet Pepsi is dangerous to me. Thanks for putting your story on the web, I am glad to know I am not the only one with this problem.

Sorry for bad english. I'm 40 and actually trying to stop drinking Diet pepsi, very first day off and not feeling very good. I use to drink between 2 and 4 litters per day, sometimes more. Caffeine, aspartame and probably some other chemicals are synergising to make Diet Pepsi an addictive and unique stimulating mix producing kind of hype found in no other drink… I’m sure Pepsi knows about this…
